Back on the East Coast for the first time since 1977!
In the first week of July 2010, over 7,000 Barbershop enthusiasts from around the world will descend on
the cradle of liberty for a week of the best in 4-part a cappella harmony.
From quartets to choruses (some with as many as 150 members), all will compete for the
Barbershop Harmony Society's International Gold Medal, The most prestigious award in all of a cappella music.
Each year in the first week of July, the top 28 barbershop choruses in the world, over 50 quartets,
and over 20 college quartets convene to see who is the best of the best. These quartets and choruses
are culled from over 800 world-wide chapters in 3 stages of competition from Divisions, to Districts,
to the International convention stage. You have to hear it to believe it.
These aren't just top singers either. They are top performers. To reach the international competition
stage, these choruses and quartets must excel at performance, arrangement, and singing. The competitors
work countless hours for multiple years to hone their skills and put together the best possible sets to
impress the judges.
